Unconditional love is setting yourself up for success. What do you need to be successful? What are the building blocks to a healthy, fulfilling life? Attached is a checklist I give my clients, as self-care is often a new idea for so many. The purpose of the checklist is to celebrate your successes each day, big and small. In fact, all major accomplishments are an accumulation of small successes, and we need to recognize them and celebrate each one. This will help retrain our brains to care for ourselves and keep us moving forward.
This checklist also serves as a reminder of the steps we need to take to maintain our health, happiness, and success. Never use this checklist to shame yourself or feel bad about what didn’t go well. THIS WILL NOT WORK. Look for unhelpful patterns—like if you don’t drink enough water, eat in front of the TV, or fail to enforce healthy boundaries on a particular day—does food get really loud for you on these days? This is a data collection tool and will help you uncover high-risk situations and create your unique, tailored plan for recovery.
Let me explain “peaceful relationship with food” and how it relates to this checklist. This doesn’t mean a perfect relationship with food! This means, if you have a slip with food, you see it as a moment in time gone forever. You forgive yourself, are kind and gentle (as you’re likely suffering). You become present in the moment and move forward. The next moment is a rebirth to live in peace with food.
What’s wonderful about this checklist is that it is for everyone. These are the building blocks to a healthy life.
